With Spring in full swing and Summer on the way, it’s that time of the year when Mother nature opens up the heavens and blesses the earth with regenerating showers. This equates to dirty vehicles which will need to be cleaned. What a great time of the year to have a Car Wash Fundraiser! Car wash fund raisers are huge money makers, so use these warmer months to host one.

Start by getting volunteers to help. Ask friends, family or members of an organization you might be a part of. Divide them up into two teams. One team would be the washing team and the other team would be the team which dries and cleans the inside of the vehicles. Have different areas set aside for each team. This way each team will not be getting in the way of the other. Once this is all lined up, start looking for a location to host your car washing event.

The main point when looking for a place to host a car wash is location. The busier the location, the greater the chance of drawing in lots of traffic. Gas stations, convenience stores and bank parking lots are good areas to consider, as they are usually located at intersections. Be sure you ask for permission to use the water or else broker a deal for a portion of the funds raised to be given to the owner of the place you’ll be having your event at.

Once the volunteers and location have been selected, start advertising. Put out fliers. Have a map to the location on the flier. If this is an event that will be spontaneous, assign a couple of people to hold up signs announcing your car wash. Make sure they are energetic and wave those signs around a lot. People notice bright and colorful signs when driving down the road. You could have balloons marking the entrance to the car wash area as well.

You want this to be a fun event, not only for your volunteers, but for those having their car washed. Play music that is upbeat. This will help keep the energy level up. You might even consider having a lemonade stand and refreshments for those who are waiting on their cars to be done. Think about having a sitting area set up; people will appreciate being able to sit down while their car is washed.

You want to be as quick and efficient as you can, so do a few trial runs with your friends’ cars. Make sure everyone knows their job.

When the event is over, make sure you leave the area spotless. Thank the person or persons for letting you use their location. If you used a local owned business location, don’t forget to give a percentage of the events funds to the owners who allowed you to use their water. You want to leave a good impression so in the future you can host another car wash event there!
