What better way to raise money than by hosting a book sale fund raiser! Clear off those dusty book shelves by recycling books. You’re never to young to traverse the world through the pages of a book, and when you are through with it it’s time to pass the adventure on to someone new.

Get your friends, your parents and your community involved. Don’t be shy! Ask people you know to donate books for your sale. Nearly everyone has one or two they could donate.

Approach local bookstores, new and used, ask them if they’d be willing to donate books for your fund raiser. Often such stores will have books that have small tears or smudges in them, and they can write them off by donating them to your sale.

A book’s value doesn’t diminish just because it’s been read! A book sale fund raiser also gives people with little money the opportunity to enjoy great books at a cheaper price, or a chance to get that new release without having to wait for it to come out in paperback.

When setting up your books for the sale, make sure you make it appealing to would be buyers. Arrange like books together; you can set it up like you’d find at a library or bookstore and have signs on the shelves to lead people to their favorite category. Have a fun space with a low table or a rug and pillows laid out for children’s books. Display a few of the ones you know to be popular to catch the eye of that group of people who’d be looking in that area.

When pricing your books, consider the size and material used in printing the book. For example, you could price your paperbacks for fifty cents and
your hardback books for one, two or three dollars (newer books and best sellers make up your high end pricing). If you have lots of books, you might consider doing a small sack sale: fill a sack with books for five dollars, or a price you think reasonable.

Don’t forget to put up a donation box. Sometimes people will come and not buy, but they might want to make a donation anyway! You can serve cookies and drinks as well. Nothing taste better than homemade cookies and a can of soda. This will give those browsing another opportunity to contribute to your fund raiser. Sell a coke and a cookie for a dollar, or offer a freebie to high rollers that spend $20 or more!

There you go. A book sale with drinks and snacks. What a fun way to spend a day !
