With everyone on the go these days, many don’t have time to iron their clothes, so this fundraiser will give them the opportunity to get caught up, by having someone else iron for them. The thrust of this fundraiser could be that it is time to get spring apparel out of the closet depths and get it ready for wearing. A local dry cleaners can be enlisted to help out, and a portion of the proceeds go to defray their expense.
Start by making sure the place for the fundraiser is indeed procured. If this is to take place at a laundry service then make sure you’ve arranged some sort of agreement with them for the time the event is to last. Perhaps since they are donating the space, the kids afterwards could do a good clean up job around the shop, maybe washing windows, tidy up the place and clean up the facilities. A thank you card with a nice gift would be an appropriate gesture for the business offering the space.
Now advertise the event. List in your local paper and on fliers the date, time, and place the fundraiser to happen. State that a cost of $1.00 will be charged per shirt and $1.50 per each pair of slacks or jeans pressed. So as not to be overwhelmed set a limit per order brought in, say maybe no more than six items per order. Try to have each order done by the end of the day. Be sure to state that there will be no starching or specialty clothes handled, and that dry cleaning is provided by (state name of local shop helping out). Keeping this fundraiser as simple as possible will go a long way in being more effective and successful.
You might included in your adverts that a hanger per item needing to be ironed should be brought. This will save expense on purchasing hangers. For a small amount of money clear laundry bags, to enclose the ironed clothes in, can be purchased. Ask the laundry service where they purchase theirs and if they could order some for you in advance of the fundraiser.
This would be a great opportunity to sell baked goods as well. Have some of the students make cookies, brownies, and candies. Sell them by the dozen for $5.00. You can attach school colored ribbons to the bags the sweets are in to make it more noticeable this is for the school. You can set up a table close to the check out counter so it catches the eye of people traffic.
This event will need to be well supervised, so making sure you have enough PTA members and volunteers would be wise. While this might seem like a huge venture, this fundraiser can be a huge success, if handled properly. Adults should be doing ironing, while children can help out by folding and putting bags on items. Have a few people show up to help with the drycleaners’ as well to ensure that everything stays under control. Don’t neglect to set up donation cans.
