Quick and Clean Drive-by Fundraiser

car and cleaning products

Want to run a high quality summer fundraiser, but don’t feel like the hassle of a full blown carwash?  Host a “Clean Out Your Car and Wash Your Windshield Day”. Set it up to take place on a weekend. This will allow for adult and parental supervision. Find a very busy location, and set up shop!

•    Decide on an amount to charge for the cleaning of both the inside of the car and windshield. Five dollars is a good amount to charge for the whole shebang, or two for just a quick windshield go-over.
•    Print out fliers announcing the time and date for the school fund raiser. Be sure to include how long the fund raiser will last and the amount that will be charged.
•    Ask local grocery stores, post offices, banks, churches and laundry mats if you can post a flier on an outside window so foot traffic can see them. You can have each child take home a flier home before hand so the parents will be able to help out.
•    Ask parents to contribute their buckets, old newspapers, vinegar, old cleaning rags, trash bags and trash cans.
•    Get your local dollar store to donate air fresheners to leave in the car or non aerosol freshener or fabric sprays you can use on the interior with after the inside of the car is cleaned.
•    *NOTE* always ask if the owner of the car has any allergies before putting in a freshener or spraying it with a fabric spray.
•    Assign different classes different task. One for washing windshields, one for cleaning out the cars, and one for detailing it with the air fresheners, one for getting rid of the trash, and one crew to hold up poster boards so drive-by traffic can see. The brighter the poster board, the easier it will be to see from the street.

For the windshield cleaning crew, mix about a cup of vinegar with about five gallons of water. Vinegar is non-toxic and eco-friendly. Use a soft rag newspaper to wash the windshields with, and crumpled newsprint to polish it to a mirror shine! This takes all the oils and dirt off and doesn’t smear. Hands might get dirty, but not the windshields.

For the cleaning crew, make sure all the ash trays are emptied (this means on the arms of the door as well). Clear out all the trash, but make sure if you have any doubts about something, ask before you throw it away.

For the detailing crew, after the car has been cleaned out, spray the seats with fabric spray. If it has leather interior, or vinyl, hang an air freshener from the mirror.

The trash crew should be running around picking up the tied bags of trash and disposing of them into assigned trash bins. Pass out little scented trash bags for your customers so they can have a place to put litter!

The advertising crew should hold up bright colored poster boards. Orange, yellow and green catch the eyes of drivers more often than muted colors. Be energetic, but be safe, and don’t stand too close to the road! The advertising crew could wear same colored shirts as well – school pride or class T-shirts work well.  Also you may even cross sell with other products like a lollipop fundraiser.

Make this a fun fund raiser. As a way to reward your workers have a hot dog roast at the end of the day. This fund raiser is sure to be a huge success!
