Christmas is coming, and it will soon be time to trim the tree! What better ornaments that those that remind you of everyone you love? A Christmas Fundraiser with tree ornaments can raise money and lift Holiday spirits with the faces of loved ones smiling down from the tree.
A portable printer and a digital camera are the main things needed for this fundraiser – plus photo paper, batteries, scissors, construction paper, glitter, paper lace, sequins and glue.
Set up the event in advance and advertise to get people in the know. Hold your event at a local mall or shopping center. If you can corral some nice folks to pose as Santa or Elves you can offer photos for kids that will be extra special.
IN any event, both kids and parents will love to have their photo taken for a special ornament to grace their tree.
You’ll need several people to man the booth. One to take pictures, another to cut them out and another to keep assembling the ornaments. You can make these ahead of time – just cut out a wreath or tree shape with an opening in the middle to frame the subjects’ faces
Trace around the cutout to make flat white pieces to back the ornaments. Add glitter, sequins, a lacy edge, and a loop for string or a hook to hang them with. You can hole punch the center top and add reinforcers so you have a solid way to hang it – then add a loop of ribbon, bright yarn or a traditional ornament hook to complete the ornament.
As the photos are taken, simply print them out and cut them to fit so the person’s face shows through the opening. Slide it into the ornament and finish gluing the edges shut. Alternately, invest in spray adhesive and work on a newspaper covered table. You can hit the backing with spray, slap the photo down and top it with the front of the ornament.
Do a few test runs to figure out how far apart the photographer and subject should be to make the photos the right size, you can place a chair on one side with a line of tape on the floor where the picture taker should be.
You can calculate your price depending on how much of your supplies you can get donated – the most expensive components are paper and toner for the printer, sop hit up local office supply stores in advance. In fact, those are wonderful places to hold this fundraiser!
Charge $5-$15 per ornament, with a discount for multiple buys.
