Ready, Set, Action. Welcome to the Movie Time Fundraiser. This fundraiser is set up for a days worth of movies for the young. There’ll be popcorn for the movies, hot-dogs, and a drink for lunch, and intermissions for coloring time reprieves. Then it’s back for more movies. A goody bag of candy to take home, for those who attend, will be handed out at the end of the last movie shown.
The organizer of this event (Parent or Teacher) will need to find a place to host this days worth of movies. There will need to be restrooms available as well since kids need to go a lot. Community Centers, School Cafeteria, a closed in Pavilion of sorts are a few suggestions you might consider. You’ll also need to be sure fliers and a newspaper ad gets sent out so the community knows this fundraiser is being held to raise money for the school.
You’ll also need to select up to three or four movies to be shown for the fundraiser. The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Jungle Book, Cars, Shrek are a few which could be considered. Of course you’d want to decide on the ages you’ll be hosting and choose according to age appropriate movies.
Get students from the school involved by having them be the host/hostesses of the day. They’ll be the ones seating the kids, watching over the kids, passing out the popcorn, handing out the hot-dogs and sodas for lunch, and making sure the kids have plenty of coloring sheets to work on during the intermissions. They can hand out the goodies bags at the end of the event as well.
Before the day of the fundraiser of course everything will need to be bought for the eating part of the fundraiser. The coloring sheets can come from coloring books. Just go to a copier place and run off copies of the pages selected for the kids to color. Cheap crayons can be purchased at dollar stores since these usually get broken or lost.
Depending on where the movies will be hosted, you might need to ask parents if you can borrow kids tables and chairs so the children will have places to sit at when coloring. During the movies they can sit on the floor on blankets or floor-mats. Kids like being able to flop around if they get tired, so sitting on the floor with a favorite blankie or floor-mat will be good.
Since this event if for a days worth of food and fun a good price to ask for attending would be $8.00 per child. This would cover their admittance and food, with a small profit to be had. Of course by keeping track of those who will be attending you can get a ballpark estimate of what would be appropriate to charge since expenses for the place and food will need to be considered. So have the public call ahead of time and make arrangements for their kids to attend. Have a preset number for them to call, possible a PTA members home or the host or hostess for the days home. This can be included in the fliers and newspaper ad.
Before the day do a run through with the kids who’ll be involved. They’ll need to be told how to supervise the kids attending and be instructed on keeping the kids safe. Be aware of where all the exits in the place are and know where the restrooms are. Depending on how many kids sign up for movie day, you could assign no more than four or six kids to each student to look after. Okay, you’ve got the gist of the day in hand. Now start planning and have fun. These types of fundraisers usually are!
