With the holiday season approaching, it’s a good time to include a Thanksgiving theme in your fundraising. How about a turkey needs tail feathers fundraiser? Have the kids make construction paper turkeys and sell tail feathers. For each feather sold, a turkey gets another tail feather.
If there are many children in your group, divide them into teams and have each team make a construction paper turkey. With fewer kids, they can work in pairs or individually. Contact a local craft store and ask if they’ll donate construction paper and crayons or markers for decorating the turkeys, and glue or tape for attaching the feathers.

Supply scissors so the children can make construction paper tail feathers. Help the very young cut out a supply they can decorate. Be sure to have them leave space for the name of the person donating to provide that feather!

Have children ask people to sponsor them for selling feathers. A dollar per feather would be great, but whatever they are able to pledge will help. This will be a fun way to gain more donations, as well as additional family and community involvement.

Contact a supermarket and ask if they’ll let you display the turkeys in their front window. Explain how long they’ll be on the window, and the use of the proceeds. Offer free advertising on posters, as well as mentioning the location of the turkey display with the sale of each feather.

Ask a local radio or television station to announce your fundraiser, the cause, and the dates it will be running. Be sure to include information about the turkey display. Explain how people can donate to become part of this fun Thanksgiving themed fundraiser – whether kids will be going door to door, or if there will be a table or booth, and if so when and where.

If you are going to take the kids to events to sell feathers from a table or booth, make up posters for display. Be sure to include those who are donating supplies and space, as well as the use of the proceeds. You can even have the kids draw turkeys on the posters – some with tails and some needing more feathers.

No matter how the kids sell feathers for the Thanksgiving a turkey needs tail feathers fundraiser, be sure to accompany them for safety reasons. This event can collect many donations for your organization, and everyone involved can have fun!
